Nord NAMM 2012 News
Greetings from Norway
2011-12-19 Dag Selboskar from our Norwegian distributor has composed this beautiful video, with equal parts majestic nature and stunning keyboards. Good work!
Lasim Lach Disk
2011-12-09 HaCartel is an Israeli band with a distinct sound and here's a rather unconventional music video. Their keyboardist Yakir Ben-Tov tells us he uses his Nord Stage and Nord Wave for nearly everything he does.

Electromechanical workhorse!
2011-11-25 Swedish keyboardist Henke Widén of the band Diamond Dogs sent us some photos of his trusty old Nord Electro 2. He has played it almost every day since 2001. After 10 years he is finally considering upgrading to the Nord Electro 3 :)

Future Music Platinum Award for the Nord Electro 3 HP!
2011-11-1
The November issue of FM features a great review of the Electro 3 HP:
"...all these additions and tweaks have only improved on what was an already excellent keyboard and really open up the E3's appeal. Piano players will really dig this board's weighted feel, and it still sounds great."
And the verdict:
"The weighted keyboard extends the E3's appeal, and its power makes it a leader in the market"
Jarre in Stockholm!
2011-10-26 Jean Michel Jarre played Stockholm yesterday and it was a mindboggling audio-visual tour-de-force one can only expect from a synth legend of this calibre. The stage was crammed with desirable vintage goodies and also featured no less than three Nord keyboards on stage, including the original Nord Lead.

Visit from the Netherlands!
2011-10-25 Our friends from our Dutch, Belgian and Luxembourgian distributor M Works came over last week for a day filled with all things Nord. Swedish super keyboardist Stefan Jernståhl gave them a musical walkthrough of our instruments and our own Tomas Johansson shared his immense knowledge and odd anecdotes from the history of Clavia. Thanks to Bose for great sound!

Great review of Stage 2 in SOS!
2011-10-20 Sound On Sound magazine has reviewed the Nord Stage 2 and concludes with the following: "It's not cheap, but the combination of excellent acoustic pianos, superb e-pianos and Clavinets, unsurpassed organ emulations, sample replay and a surprisingly flexible polysynth should be a powerful aphrodisiac for players whose response to modern workstations is something along the lines of '$*%$?!?!?." Read the full review in the november issue of SOS!

Swedish organs and drums
2011-10-14 Earlier this week we had the pleasure of seeing Swedish organ/drums duo Le Système playing live at Lilla Hotellbaren in Stockholm. There's a tradition in Sweden for bands with this minimal setup and Le Système has put their funky own twist on it. Listen to more of their music on their web site!
Nord in Brazil!

Customer quotes
The new Bright Grand sounds great live... and I'm using the small size sample in my Stage Compact Classic!
...Thanks again for providing keyboard players with what they need - solid instruments with great, useful sounds as opposed to a bunch of sound effects and gadgets that distract the end user.
-Peter Kadar
Just did 10,330 miles on summer tour and my Stage EX worked flawlessly! Love my Nord.
-Tom Salyers, The Laurie Morvan Band
''I've owned many stage pianos in the past and the NP88 is hands down the best''...
''The pedal up and down modeling, the string/sympathetic resonance modeling, it's all so well done. All the sounds are just first class. All the imperfections are there, so it really feels an organic/authentic experience.''
- Zac Forbes

NAMM Booth Virtual Analog Drum Synthesizer
2012-01-18The Nord Drum is a revolutionary 4-channel drum synthesizer. With an amazingly vast sonic palette and astounding level of playability the Nord Drum is guaranteed to change your perception of what’s possible with synthetic, sample-free percussion.
Create classic retro-futuristic percussion with analog waveforms or use the harmonically complex waveforms together with different colors of noise for results that both sound and respond stunningly organic. The Nord Drum is designed with the performing musician in mind and its extreme dynamic range and super-fast triggering add to the feeling of playing a real instrument.
4 high-sensitivity inputs and MIDI lets you play the Nord Drum with a wide range of Electronic Drum Pads, Acoustic Drum Triggers and MIDI-pads/Sequencers for easy integration into any existing drum-kit or the starting point for something completely new…
Check out www.norddrum.com for video and sound demos!
The new Nord Drum will be shown at booth #6464 at the 2012 NAMM Show, 19-22 January.
Dual manual organ with physical drawbars
2012-01-18Complete with 2 sets of physical drawbars per manual the Nord C2D is the ultimate portable organ for musicians that play with their drawbars as well as the keys. The new left-hand preset sections offer an unsurpassed level of hands-on control and the upper manual and panel has been tilted for better ergonomics. A LCD-display has been added for easier access to programs and settings.
The Nord C2D features a redesigned simulation of the characteristic mechanical key clicks that are an essential component of the classic tone-wheel experience. Furthermore, the redesigned percussion model offers increased control over the percussion levels when playing near-legato. The Nord C2D also includes a redesigned Rotary Speaker simulation of a vintage 122 unit.
The new Nord C2D Combo Organ will be shown at booth #6464 at the 2012 NAMM Show, 19-22 January.
Now with Nord Sample Library support and updated effect section!
2012-01-18The Nord Piano 2 gives you our best acoustic and electric piano sounds as well as access to our versatile Nord Sample Library.
It’s amazingly simple to layer and split sounds from both our sound libraries and we’ve added a volume pedal input for sneaking in those strings while you keep playing. All sounds can be replaced and its even possible to create your own samples using the Nord Sample Editor.
See the comparison chart for more details on whats new!
The new Nord Piano 2 will be shown at booth #6464 at the 2012 NAMM Show, 19-22 January.
New in the Nord Sample Library!
2011-11-15
Released in 1978, the Jupiter-4 was one of the first analog polyphonic synthesizers available and featured 8 memory locations and an arpeggiator. Like many synthesizers of that era it featured preset buttons like "Piano", "Brass" and "Strings". While those instruments might not be the most obvious references when listening to these presets today, there's no doubt the Jupiter-4 could produce some truly amazing sounds and it has contributed signature sounds many famous recordings including Duran Duran's 'Rio'.
Other famous players include: Depeche Mode, Gary Numan, Meat Beat Manifesto, Saint Etienne, Simple Minds, Spandau Ballet, Stevie Wonder, Tears for Fears, Thomas Dolby, The Cars, The Human League and Vangelis.

New 80's lead and bass samples!
2011-10-31 In the following weeks we'll be adding a bunch of classic sounds from some legendary synthesizers to the Nord Sample Library. First out is the classic Oberheim OB-8, an 8-voice (2 oscillators per voice) analog polyphonic synth released in 1983. Only 3000 were produced but it made its way to many popular songs including Prince's 1999. Other famous OB-8 users include Depeche Mode, The Police, Trent Reznor (NIN), Thompson Twins, Rush, Simple Minds, KLF, Van Halen, Stevie Nicks and Future Sound of London.

New sounds in the Nord Sample Library!
2011-10-14
The Optigan and Orchestron were successors to the famous Mellotron and Chamberlin-machines. They were analog, mechanic sample players but Optigan and Orchestron used optical discs for storage, making them considerably more transportable than their one-tape-machine-player-per-key predecessors and also more affordable. Changing sounds was now simply a matter of swapping discs, but the sound fidelity attainable with these optical discs was very limited.
Famous users include Kraftwerk (the 'Choir' sound on Radio Activity is the Orchestron), Elvis Costello, Devo, PJ Harvey and many more.
All samples are unretouched and include original mechanical noises and artifacts for maximum vintage authenticity!

Bugfix and improved sustain pedal action
2011-10-13 The Nord Piano OS v1.44 version fixes an unfortunate bug in the 1.40 OS that prevented the instrument from starting properly if all the pianos had been deleted from the flash memory and the Nord Piano was re-started. It also addresses an issue where certain pedal actions could lead to unwanted level changes in the sound.
Get the new OS version in the Nord Piano Download area.
Extensive update with new features and bugfixes!
2011-10-06 The Sound Menu now includes separate settings for the Rotary's horn and rotor speed, and acceleration/retardation time. The new version allows you to store the settings of the Synth Glide, Voice Mode, Unison and Vibrato parameters in the Synth Sound memory.
We've implemented a few things that already have been promised and documented: the Mono feature now works globally on all instruments and when storing a program it's now possible to browse for a suitable location and listen to the program stored there before overwriting anything. The sustain pedal interaction in the Piano Section has gone through a major overhaul, resulting in a much smoother behavior during performances with plenty of pedal action.
In short; there are lots of good stuff in this update and we recommend everyone to get it.
Note: Any Programs saved using OS v1.40 will be incompatible with earlier OS versions. Use the Nord Sound Manager to make a backup copy of all your current programs before updating if there is any chance of you wanting to use an older OS version.
Get the important OS update in the Nord Stage 2 Download section.
