Roland Jupiter-4

2011-11-15

Released in 1978, the Jupiter-4 was one of the first analog polyphonic synthesizers available and featured 8 memory locations and an arpeggiator. Like many synthesizers of that era it featured preset buttons like "Piano", "Brass" and "Strings". While those instruments might not be the most obvious references when listening to these presets today, there's no doubt the Jupiter-4 could produce some truly amazing sounds and it has contributed signature sounds many famous recordings including Duran Duran's 'Rio'.

Other famous players include: Depeche Mode, Gary Numan, Meat Beat Manifesto, Saint Etienne, Simple Minds, Spandau Ballet, Stevie Wonder, Tears for Fears, Thomas Dolby, The Cars, The Human League and Vangelis.
